Newcomers Christmas, Calgary

This year, we had the wonderful opportunity to help bring Christmas cheer to children and their families who have recently immigrated to Canada.

FTLOCS was honored to assist in organizing gifts and bringing Santa to the event. With a list of nearly 50 children, ages 1-19, we checked it twice and went shopping! Thanks to the generosity of Lathered (a local cleaning company), Airdrie Family Eye Doctors, and FTLOC, we were able to purchase personalized gifts for each child, ensuring that each gift was beautifully wrapped and ready for the big day.

The Center of Newcomers did an incredible job organizing a full afternoon of festive activities. While the children enjoyed crafts, games, and plenty of fun, their adult family members were entertained with music, dance performances, and sports that represented a wide range of cultures and talents. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal of pizza and homemade Christmas goodies, creating a joyful atmosphere for all.

Santa’s arrival, with bells on, was one of the most heartwarming moments of the day. A team of elves helped distribute gifts to each child. What was most moving was the children’s reaction: they carefully preserved their wrapped gifts, treating them as little treasures and leaving the event without opening them—an act that truly captured the spirit of Christmas.

As William Arthur Ward said, “Christmas is more than a time of festivities, family, and friends; it is a season of generosity, gladness, and gratitude.”

By investing in children, we invest in hope. Hope for a future where suffering is lessened and opportunities abound. When we bring joy, love, and fun to children, we are building that hope. This Christmas event was a beautiful reminder of the power of giving, and we are grateful to have been part of it.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, filled with love, warmth, and gratitude.
