Successful Peru Mission: Supporting Education, Empowering Children, and Building Stronger Futures
Our recent mission in Peru was a huge success, and the children were overjoyed to see us! Although we were told to expect pleasant weather, a cold front arrived, bringing even some snowfall to certain areas. Despite the weather challenges, the visit was very rewarding.
Our new school is looking great, and the centre run by Carmen Bello is progressing well. We are assisting Carmen with finishing the interior, and their immediate need is to cover the roof with cement to prevent rainwater from leaking inside. The estimated cost for this is 2,800 soles ($1,120.00). During our visit, we provided educational games and toys for the children to share at the centre, along with additional educational supplies. This centre will serve children in the surrounding impoverished area, offering support with their education and homework while their parents are at work after school hours.
The new school was also equipped with a kitchen facility, complete with necessary cooking utensils and a stove. Our main school, the Ashid Bahl School in Cusco, is looking great. The children welcomed us with songs and traditional dances, which was a beautiful moment. We distributed the educational supplies and toothbrushes we had brought and presented special awards to the past and present principals, our agent Miguel, and the outstanding student of the year.
One immediate need at Ashid Bahl School is to install glass on the outside of the classrooms to close the gaps between the concrete columns. This would help reduce the cold air and rain from entering the classrooms. The cost for this is approximately $3,600.00 ($1,440.00). Additionally, the school is hoping to send their graduating class on a trip to Machu Picchu in August.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Heather, Miguel, Akersh, and Kassim, who were integral members of our team. The children were so excited to meet them, and they even asked for their autographs! I will ask them to share more photos and their personal experiences with the children and schools soon.
